Wine For Dummies

I started reading a different type of book this week. Normally my reading consists of a management/leadership/business/branding book. This week, however, there's a different avenue to travel, Wine for Dummies. Please do not get this wrong, I personally feel that an occasional drink is a-okay. After all, wasn't the first miracle performed by Jesus (John 2:11)? That being said, I have always wanted to be able to go to a restaurant and be able to order a beverage that would go well with my meal...other than water.

The 2nd chapter of the book goes into wine tasting. You get to learn about the 'nose' and 'palate' of the wine you are tasting. I have started with the basics (chardonnay) and so far Yellow Tail (Southern Australia) is my favorite.

Has anyone else got the wine bug?

in college wine only came in a box. inside the box was a mylar balloon that held the wine. red went on the counter. white went in the fridge. after college wine showed up in bottles with fancy labels. bottom line there is white, red, and pink (which is red wine poured into a glass that had white in it) there are about a million wines on the market. only you know what tastes good to you. all the adjectives in the world do not make a wine better. if you smell it, taste it, swallow it and it sucks. guess what it sucks. who cares if it cost 90 dollars a bottle. in restaurants buy the wine by the glass the markup on bottles is criminal. when in doubt ask. tell the sommelier (dude that knows wine) what you are looking for. a good sommelier will get you the right type of wine regardless of cost.
